FACT offers a wide array of sports leagues throughout the school year, including basketball, soccer, kickball, and volleyball. Each league provides an interactive, supportive atmosphere where children ages 6 and
older (8 and older for volleyball) can increase their knowledge about the sport, teamwork, and about one another. Our goal is for every participant to walk out of the gym with a smile on their face. We have two experienced coaches and a few peer volunteers to help model skills and encourage participation. Adult supervision is limited, therefore parents or caregivers are required to stay on site during instruction. All ability levels are welcome, however FACT sports programs are recommended for students with fair receptive language skills who can follow simple directions and imitate actions. Check our programs calendar for our next scheduled league!
iCan Shine Ride-A-Bike Program
The ability to ride a bike increases opportunities for social interaction and increases fitness and self confidence! It is appropriate for males or females, regardless of age and can be enjoyed almost anywhere at any time of the year. Bicycles can also be a valuable mode of transportation.
I Can Shine teaches individuals with developmental disabilities ages 8 and older to ride traditional two wheel bicycles. However, it is important to consider behavioral issues when evaluating this program. An individual may be physically able to ride a bike, but if their behavior is such that they cannot be persuaded to get on the bike and follow instructions, then it is likely this program will not be beneficial.
Each year, FACT strives to find a host for this program whose facility meets the requirements for this outstanding program. iCan Shine requires a local suitable facility that is climate-controlled, with a minimum indoor riding area of 6,800 square feet, in which to conduct our bike program Monday through Friday during normal business hours. Additionally, an equivalently sized nearby outdoor riding area- relatively flat and free of hazardous obstacles is needed for the days of Wednesday through Friday only. Please read additional host facility requirements if you feel you can help, as FACT can only provide the program when a suitable location is secured.
