Bowling Camp for Autistic ChildrenGonnawannabowlagin’ Bowling League

Gonnawannabowlagin’ is a peer bowling league that takes place in the fall and winter and is designed for students  with ASD 8 or older who want to be part of a team. All ability levels are welcome, however the league is recommended for students with fair receptive language skills.  Supervision will be limited and participation will be facilitated  by student volunteers. Adult and student volunteers will be on hand to assist our bowlers but all parents and caregivers are expected to participate by keeping score, keeping our students on task and encouraging them. We bowl every Sunday afternoon for 8 weeks at the Pinboys on Laskin Road in Virginia Beach.  A one-time registration fee includes two games per week and an end of season party .

pic10iCan Shine Ride-A-Bike Program

The ability to ride a bike increases opportunities for social interaction and increases fitness and self confidence!  It is appropriate for males or females, regardless of age and can be enjoyed almost anywhere at any time of the year, Bicycles can also be a valuable mode of transportation.

I Can Bike teaches individuals with developmental disabilities ages 8 and older to ride traditional two wheel bicycles. However, it is important to consider behavioral issues when evaluating this program.  An individual may be physically able to ride a bike, but if their behavior is such that they cannot be persuade to get on the bike and follow instructions, then it likely this program will not be beneficial.

GonnawannaKICKagin Kickball Clinic

FACT is thrilled to bring co-ed kickball to our families with autism. Our coaches and student volunteers will use their expertise, modeling, and visuals to teach skills and understanding of the game. Kickball is a great game for athletes with special needs because all players have a pre-determined role, location, and clear set of rules. The one-on-one instruction FACT provides within a team-building environment creates a heightened level of excitement for our athletes with autism. We hope to increase our athlete’s physical endurance and coordination, attention, and social interaction through team play.
