Applicants for camp counselors should be responsible, dependable individuals with a genuine desire to assist children with special needs. Compassion, patience, and a willingness to learn are pre-requisites.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
Applicants should have two years of experience working with individuals with disabilities (autism preferred) or two years higher education in Special Education, Psychology, Speech Pathology, Occupational Therapy or Physical Therapy.
The primary duty of staff members is to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the children with autism in their charge. Staff will be assigned one or two students per week.
Staff will also supervise and mentor student volunteers.
Staff must be available from 8:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Monday through Friday of their assigned weeks.
Applicants must submit a completed application and waiver prior to the posted deadline.
Applicants must possess the physical vigor to work effectively with children. Individuals should be able to lift 40 pounds, run 50 yards, and be a competent swimmer.
Once hired, staff will complete payroll and tax documents, provide proof of identity, and undergo a criminal background check.
